Spit, also known as Go Spit, is a card game that many children learn after mastering simpler games such as War, Go Fish, and Old Maid. Spit’s goal is to get rid of all of your cards. The sequence of card ranks and the ability to count are both required. Spit is a game in which the Aces are ranked high and low.

The game of spit requires two players, but it can be played with any number of people. Each player has his or her own deck of cards with a unique design and/or color, allowing each player’s cards to be identified.
Players should congregate around a table or a large open area on the floor. Each player shuffles their deck and immediately places the top four cards face up in a row in front of them, but keeps the rest of the deck in one hand, ready to play cards from it.

When one player says, “1, 2, 3, Spit!” or “Go Spit!” the game begins. On this command, each player takes the top card from their deck and places it in front of them in a pile closer to the center of the area than their four-card line-up and within reach of everyone else playing.
Play begins right away, with each player playing cards onto one of the central piles using their four-card line up. Cards are dealt in order, either ascending or descending. A King or a 2 can be played on an Ace, and an Ace can be played on a 2 or a King. The suit of the cards does not matter, and players may play on anyone’s pile, not just their own, but only one card can be moved at a time with one hand while the other holds the deck.
If another player has played a card first, the player must return his or her card to the four-card line-up. When a player’s line-up is down to less than four cards, he or she can refill it with the top card(s) from the deck in his or her hand. The game continues until no one can put any more cards down. The command to spit is then repeated, and play resumes.
In order to go out, a player must use up all of the cards in his or her deck as well as all of the cards in his or her four-card line-up. The player who uses up all of his or her cards first wins. When play comes to a halt because no player has been able to use all of their cards, the player with the fewest cards remaining wins. If players want to play multiple games, they can assign a point to each card a player has left, with the winner being the player with the fewest points once a set maximum number of points has been reached.
